Is your Windows laptop or desktop acting up — running slow, showing strange errors, or just not doing what it used to? Maybe you just got a new computer and the whole thing feels overwhelming. Whatever's going on, we come to your home in Portland and work through it with you — no shop, no waiting, no tech speak. Just patient help, in person, at your pace.
If your computer suddenly started behaving differently — your printer stopped working, your desktop looks different, settings moved, or a program you use every day has disappeared — there's a good chance a recent Windows update is behind it. This happens constantly, especially after major Windows 10 or Windows 11 updates. And it's almost never as serious as it feels. We also help with Windows and Mac — no matter what kind of computer you have, our technicians are experienced with all major platforms.
ElderTech is based in NE Portland and serves Irvington, Alameda, Grant Park, Beaumont-Wilshire, Laurelhurst, Hollywood, and surrounding neighborhoods. Same-day appointments available for urgent issues.
Slow or Freezing Computers
We clean up unnecessary startup programs, remove temporary files, check for software updates, and make sure your machine is running as smoothly as possible. Most people notice a real difference before the visit is over.
New Computer Setup
We transfer all your files, photos, and documents from your old computer, get your email and printer connected, install the apps you use, and make sure the whole thing feels familiar before we leave.
Viruses, Pop-ups, and Strange Behavior
Pop-ups you can't close, a changed browser homepage, or warnings to call a phone number — we come to your home, check your system, clear out any threats, and show you what to watch for so you feel safe online again.
File Organization and Backup
We help you organize your files into simple folders, set up cloud backup so your important documents and photos are safe, and free up space so your computer runs better.
Printing and Peripheral Help
We connect your printer, scanner, or external keyboard and make sure everything works together. If your printer stopped working after an update, we troubleshoot the drivers and get you printing again.
Email and Account Recovery
Email stopped syncing, a password that stopped working, or an account you can't get into — we walk through the recovery process step by step and get you back in without the frustration.
In-Home Tech visits start at $149 (first hour). Additional time is $75 per 30 minutes — and we always discuss it with you before continuing. New clients receive 15% off their first visit. If we aren't able to help, you only pay a $49 travel fee.
Yes, we provide in-home help for both Windows PCs and Apple Mac computers. Whether you have a desktop, laptop, or all-in-one, our technicians can assist with setup, troubleshooting, and everyday tasks.
Yes — a slow or freezing computer is one of the most common reasons people call us. We come to your home, check what's causing it (usually startup programs, full storage, or a recent update), and clear out whatever's bogging it down. Most people notice a significant difference before the visit is over.
If we can't solve the problem, you pay just $49 for the visit — that's it. No surprises, no fine print, no diagnostic fees. Most clients walk away with everything working. But either way, you're covered.
We typically schedule visits within 1–2 business days. Same-day appointments are available — and they go fast.
